PIPER AIRCRAFT SELECTS AVIDYNE ENTEGRA FOR MATRIX
Piper Also Becomes First to Offer Avidyne’s new MLB700 Datalink Receiver as Standard Equipment and TAS610 Active Traffic and TWX670 Tactical Weather Sensor As Options
AOPA EXPO 2007, HARTFORD, CT, October 4, 2007 – Avidyne Corporation announced today that Piper Aircraft has selected the Avidyne Entegra integrated flight deck as standard equipment on its new Piper Matrix aircraft. Piper also is the first manufacturer to offer a trio of safety sensors from Avidyne.
The Avidyne MLB700 Broadcast Datalink Receiver for WSI InFlight® weather service and SIRIUS Satellite Radio is included in the Matrix as standard equipment. It is part of a rich set of standard Matrix features that also includes Avidyne’s exclusive MultiLink™ two-way datalink service, EMax™ Electronic Engine Instrumentation System and CMax™ Jeppesen JeppView® electronic chart display. Available as options are the TAS610 active traffic system and the TWX670 Tactical Weather Sensor.
The selection also affirms Entegra as the integrated flight deck standard across the entire fleet of Piper Aircraft from entry-level single-engine piston to turboprop.
The Matrix is Piper’s exciting new high-performance single-engine piston aircraft based on the highly successful Mirage. It delivers much of the Mirage’s performance and many of its advanced features at lower cost while offering reduced pilot workload with simplified systems. The 2008 Matrix model year production of 105 aircraft already is sold out.
"Many of our customers and prospective buyers told us that they wanted an airplane that provided the best in luxury, elegance and performance at a price that is hundreds of thousands of dollars below what has been available," said Piper President & CEO James K. Bass. "The Piper Matrix fills those requirements, and it does it on the finest, most proven, airframe coupled with the most advanced technology available in General Aviation."
"Piper is setting a new benchmark for performance, value and available safety systems with the Matrix," said Avidyne President Dan Schwinn. "In addition to the proven situational awareness benefits of Entegra across the Piper fleet, the WSI InFlight® weather and SIRIUS digital audio entertainment of the MLB700, the active traffic capabilities of the TAS610, and powerful new tactical weather avoidance features of the TWX670 give Matrix owners more capabilities than many business jets. The Matrix already looks like a winner."
Entegra for the Matrix Overview
Entegra for the Matrix includes a 10.4-inch diagonal Avidyne PFD with standard flight instrumentation and pilot-selectable moving-map flight plan data, horizontal situation indicator (EHSI), a Bearing pointer, digital RMI readouts and integrated flight director command bars. The PFD is integrated with a solid-state air data and attitude/heading reference system (ADAHRS) providing full redundancy as well as much higher reliability than traditional "spinning-mass" gyros. The PFD may be coupled with the autopilot for altitude pre-select, vertical speed select and heading select without the need for an external control panel. Entegra also delivers complete WAAS LPV approach capability with integrated lateral and vertical guidance and annunciations.
The integrated air data computer provides a valuable full-time instantaneous wind vector displayed on the PFD, taking the guesswork out of finding the right altitude to optimize flight time and wind correction while entering the pattern or flying an approach. Trend indicators provide six-second trend data for airspeed, altitude and heading, allowing precise control with reduced workload when changing or maintaining an airspeed or altitude. Vx, Vy and Vg airspeed labels make it easy to fly precise airspeeds during critical phases of flight. Heading tick marks on the PFD’s horizon improve the smoothness of heading intercepts while tightening the pilot’s scan.
The 10.4-inch diagonal EX5000 MFD features a high-resolution moving map display that can show flight plan information and graphical weather data, CMax charts and EMax engine data. Optionally available are Avidyne’s FlightCenter™ services for flight tracking and two-way text messaging capabilities.
Avidyne’s MLB700 system receives WSI InFlight® weather data products for informed cockpit weather decisions and improved situational awareness. The data include WSI’s award-winning NOWrad® radar mosaic showing cell height, movement and forecast movement, and datalink lighting from the long-range United States Precision Lightning Network (USPLN). The system also can show winds and temperatures aloft, TAFs, graphical and textual METARS, AIRMETS and SIGMETS,
For pilot and passenger comfort and enjoyment, the MLB700 optionally delivers "The Best Radio on Radio®" with 130 channels of SIRIUS sports, news, talk, and 100% commercial-free music programming for enjoyment over an aircraft audio system. Avidyne’s handy RC70 remote control lets the passengers or crew browse and select the audio channel to be played over the aircraft audio system using the easy-to-read built-in display.
The MLB700 uses advanced SIRIUS chipsets and low-profile Sky-Focused ™ satellite antenna optimized specifically for airborne operations that improves signal reception and receiver performance. The MLB700 is designed for easy installation and access and includes a USB port to enable new features and future enhancements through software upgrades.
High-Performance, High-Value Safety Systems Options
Matrix owners also may add Avidyne traffic and tactical weather systems for added situational awareness, comfort and convenience.
TAS610
The TAS610 active traffic system features a 12nm range, a 3,500-foot vertical separation maximum and a 25,000-foot service ceiling. The TAS 610 uses Heads-up Audible Position Alerting™ keeps the pilot’s attention focused outside the cockpit, scanning for oncoming traffic, by verbally calling out target bearing, range and relative altitude. This automated voice alert uses the same alert terminology as Air Traffic Control: "Traffic! 12 O’clock! High! Two Miles!" Patented small-footprint, top-and-bottom antennas provide improved target acquisition and tracking compared to single-antenna systems. Ryan Active Surveillance™ technology detects target transponders when in range no matter where the aircraft is operating. The system uses standard traffic alert & collision avoidance system (TCAS) symbology to display traffic information on Entegra multi-function displays (MFDs) and Garmin GNS430 displays.
TWX670
Avidyne’s TWX670 is a third-generation lightning-based weather detection system that provides an instantaneous picture of surrounding weather from 0 – 200nm.
The TWX670 is provides real time, tactical, weather avoidance capability by accurately detecting and clearly displaying electrical discharges –the primary indicator of thunderstorms—in real time, regardless of aircraft maneuvering. Advanced signal processing, calibration, and noise immunity minimizes radial spread and allows for the display of close-range strikes from 0nm-25nm for true Tactical Weather Detection, making it a perfect complement to the strategic benefits of satellite-based datalink weather.
